Announcement: I’m the official NZFW Blogger for The Edge

It’s our country’s biggest fashion event and I’ve got your all-access pass sorted. Join me as I go behind-the-scenes of New Zealand Fashion Week 2014 as the official blogger for The Edge. Follow me online and watch out for my face on TV as I take you on my #NZFW adventure from the front row to the backstage.

My blogger page on The Edge.

My blogger page live now at The Edge online.

We’ll meet the people who make it happen; the designers, models, stylists, hairdressers and makeup artists as they showcase the Winter ‘15 collections at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. With unprecedented access, I’ll be taking fashion nationwide with The Edge so get ready for all the backstage antics and plenty of take-home tips.

A runway veteran, I’ve walked the NZFW catwalks for five consecutive years and have been a model for seven, but this year I’m hanging my high heels up and taking a seat front row. Having worked both locally and internationally (in Sydney, Singapore, Milan, Munich, Los Angeles and Miami), fashion is undoubtedly an industry I know and love, but it’s New Zealand fashion that’s close to my heart. From Karen Walker, Trelise Cooper, and Ruby, to Juliette Hogan, Nom*D, and Stolen Girlfriends Club, I’ve walked the runways for all the big Kiwi designers, but this year it’s time for an exciting change. Trust me, you’re in good hands!

This is your chance for an insider’s glimpse into all the NZFW action and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. Look out for my show reviews, trend reports, and daily recaps on The Edge online and make sure to tune into The Edge TV for interviews with the fashion pack and plenty of behind-the-scenes madness, and trust me, there’s a lot of it….

Case in point; I’d like to share a little NZFW story of my own. Once, during a Trelise Cooper show  back in 2011, I had a little mishap. No, don’t worry I didn’t face-plant on the catwalk (I’m proud to say I’ve never tripped – let’s hope I didn’t just jinx myself) but on this occasion I did in fact lose my hair, and not in the figuritive way. About half way back on the runway I felt a massive weight release from the back of my head. Oh my god. There goes my metre-long plaited ponytail on the catwalk…. What the f*** do I do? Go back and get it? No I can’t turn around. Okay, just keep walking. Stop smiling, Sam. Forgodsake don’t start laughing. Shit….  With a smirk and a quivering lip I tried desperately to hold back an explosion of laughter, managing to make it just far enough around the corner backstage before buckling over. Trelise seemed quite concerned upon spotting me until I explained what happened. Being the good sport she is, she too found the incident highy amusing and quickly hustled the hairdryers to find me a new head of hair. It was black, but better than nothing though, right? Four hairdressers and about 30 seconds later I was as good as new. Special thanks to the woman in the front row who promptly scooped my ponytail off the runway. That’s a serious hazard right there! #MODELPROBLEMS

My blogger page over at The Edge is live now and it’s already in full swing. If you’re getting a bit over the cold weather, check out my first trend report ‘Club Tropicana’ for a fresh spring look that will melt those winter blues away. Go on, take a little vacation! I promise you it will cost a lot less than the real thing.

Meanwhile you can stay up to date with all the NZFW news, like the Mercedes-Benz Presents Trelise Cooper event on Wednesday night in Auckland which I was lucky enough to attend. A first for New Zealand, this is a major coup for the designer who now joins the best of the best in the fashion industry around the world in recieving this prestigious award from the luxury car brand. International icons like Derek Lam, Badgley Mischka and Carolina Herrera are just some of the former Mercedes-Benz Presents recipients.

Turning it up yet another notch, Mercedes has also come on board as an Elite Sponsor of NZFW, a partnership which certainly gives elevated meaning to the phrase driving in style. Synonymous with luxury and design, the car brand’s mantra is ‘the best or nothing’, so with this nod of approval it seems NZFW is at the top of its game! You can read all about it here.

Mercedes Benz NZ Trelise Cooper 2014

Note: Yes, that’s me on the left. It’s a white winter wonderland for the official Mercedes Benz Presents Trelise Cooper campaign for New Zealand Fashion Week 2014. Too bad I didn’t get to run away with the car…

Combining my love of fashion, writing, and presenting with my modelling background, I can’t think of a better way to spend this years NZFW than teaming up with The Edge as their official Fashion Week Blogger. Let’s just say this opportunity is a dream come true for me and I’m so excited to be making this all a reality. The best part is I’m going to have a whole lot of fun doing it. It doesn’t get much better than that!

New Zealand Fashion Week 2014 is set to be bigger and better than ever, and with my AAA ticket thanks to The Edge, you get to come along for the ride too. Bring it on, I say! Three and a half weeks and counting…
